Frugal Scrapper Extraordinaire:)

For those of you who have been following my blog, THANK YOU, I'm still here and as FRUGAL as ever. I'm just expanding my blog title to further reflect my "altered" muse. I'm still the same (sometimes goofy) FRUGAL SCRAPPER that I've always been and will continue to focus on FRUGAL papercrafting projects:)

Frosted Designs - Circles

I just cannot believe how lucky I am sometimes...yes, even in my CREATIVE WORLD...when I found out that the Fabulous Friday Challenge for this week was "Circles"...I started to panic...because I cannot remember the last time I made circles the focus of my crafting...now I do use buttons and circle punches and die cuts, but they are usually as an accent, not the focus of my project.

Then low and behold, I receive one of my crafty e-mails from Get it Scrapped and what to I see????  I see samples of how to incorporate circles into scrapbooking.  Can you believe my luck????  Well here was my inspiration and below is what I came up with.
Now, I know I normally show you the inside of my cards, too...but I just think the outside of this one is sooooo cool, I don't want to take away from it:)

I was thrilled to be able to use my Spellbinders Circle die cuts.  I used the small set for the color circles and the large set for the white circles...and ya wanna know what????  Being the FRUGAL person that I am, I nested the large circles inside each other before cuttim them out.  I figured since they are behind the color circles there is no reason they need to be a solid circle, right?

A project like this is GREAT for using scrap paper.  I've had some of this paper in my stash for more than 5 years!

I even used some old rub-ons I've had FOREVER, and of course a few buttons and flowers completed the card nicely.

Now hop on over to the Frosted Designs Blog and play along:)  There is a fabulous prize for one lucky winner from Mold Muse.  Hop on over to their site, too, and leave them some "love".  They make high grade silicone rubber to make molds that are even safe for foods.  They have been in business for over 20 years and make all of the molds themselves.  How cool is that?

I hope to see you play along with us over at the Frosted Designs Blog:)

Card Patterns Sketch 171

I was having so much fun with my color palate this week that I decided to use it to make this week's take on the current Card Pattern's sketch.

This is the sketch this week:
And this is my take on it:)

Now, you may notice that I didn't do a very good job in editing my fotos...again...but I'm still not able to use my photoshop:(

I have to find some time to call Dell support again so they can "fix" the stuff that wasn't broken until after they "fixed" what was originally broken, lol.

Supplies:

Patterned Paper:  Teresa Collins
Cardstock:  Bazzill Basics
Stamps:  My Favorite Things
Glitter:  Stickles

Color Inspiration...week 3...

Did you ever notice that when you see something for the first time, afterwards you see it everywhere?  Well that's what I have found when it comes to Color Inspiration in crafting...now I do know that there have always been color inspiration challenges on the web, but I guess I never really searched them out because I just didn't know how many there really are!  I may just have to create a side bar on my blog with links to some of them because they really ARE amazingly inspirational!

Since this is my favorite inspiration, I will continue to share my own "version" with you each Monday.  I really hope I can be as inspirational to you as other are:)

My approach will be as follows:
  • If I find something as I float through my day, I will take a frugal foto of it and share it with you
  • If I am surfing other amazing blogs or websites and find something that is just irresistable, I'll save a pic, post it here (and of course link back to where I found it).
  • I will use my inspiration to create a project to share that will hopefully inspire you further:)
Sound good?  Then let's get started with this week's inspiration.

I found this awesome pic here at the Southern Belle's Charm blog.

I just LOVE pale yellow and grey together...I'm already thinking about my pumice stone distress ink...AND my perfect pearls homemade mist....ahhhhhhhh....o.k., I'm off to make my extra special inspiration and will be back to finish this post one I've completed my project, o.k.?

O.k....so I went to go on-line yesterday and my computer decided it didn't want to cooperate...so 2 hrs later, after a session with Dell's support, I am able to go on-line again and lots of other things got fixed...but you know how that goes...then other things ended up broken...like Photoshop....so my foto below is just cropped and resized, but nothing else...I also didn't take as many fotos as I usually do.  Hopefully, this will still be enough to get you inspired:)

I just love these Teresa Collins patterned papers.  I am also lovin' these Technique Tuesday Thank You stamps.  Woo hoo!

A Little Color Inspiration with Card Patterns on top:)

So, I'm really lovin' this new venture of mine, working with color inspiration...and this week is no different.  I've been craving rainbow sherbert this week, so I thought I'd surf the web for some pics of sherbert (less calories this way, right?)

Here is what I found:

Isn't this just YUMMY lookin'?  This is just the PERFECT color inspiration for me this week...and a PERFECT way for me to continue my quest to experiment with my oh so yummy distress markers!

This is where I started here, at my very dear friend Teresa Jaye's blog.  She was using a technique she learned from a tutorial by Jennifer McGuire here and I just HAD to try it myself.

The challenge was to find a stamp in my stash that would work for this type of technique...and voila, I found a "screen" stamp by Unity Stamps.  After stamping on white paper using a distress embossing ink pad and white distress powder, I started by choosing a few of my favorite distress markers and just randomly colored in each square.  Once this was completed, I misted my paper with a bit of water mixed with perfect pearls in copper.  I just love the way it turned out.  (Now, I should have taken a foto BEFORE I made my card) but alas, I did not do this, so my sample is what I have left after finishing my card.

Next, I dropped in on one of my favorite sketch blogs, Card Patterns, and used this sketch for additional inspiration.

So let's review:
  • I started with my color inspiration - Rainbow Sherbert
  • Added a new distress marker technique by Jennifer McGuire which I found at Teresa Jaye's blog
  • I visited Card Patterns for a sketch
  • ...and created the masterpiece below!
I have to say, this is one of my favorites of my recent cards.  I just have to tell you how much I LOVE all the inspiration I find on the web these days!  Here are a few more fotos of this gorgeous card:

When it came to the inside of this card, I wanted the water color effect to fade into the background, leaving more room to write a personal message.  To do this, I just colored my stamp and then stamped off my project before stamping back onto it without re-inking the stamp.

Supplies:

Patterned Paper: Making Memories - Simply Fabulous (2005); DCWV Posies Glitter Print...(not sure of year)
Cardstock: Bazzill Basics
Watercolor paper
Stamps: Studio 490 "It's more flower art"; MFT Friendship set
Distress Markers: (with flower stamp)spiced marmalade, shabby shutters, worn lipstick, dried marigold, (for "screen project) in addition to those already listed, milled lavender, faded jeans, mustard seed, fired brick, peeled paint.
Distress Ink: spiced marmalade
From my stash: ribbon, rhinestones

FD Craft Room Blog Hop and awesome prize!

Ya know, things just work out  they should sometimes, don't they?  The Frosted Designs Blog is hosting a Crafting Room Blog Hop from Friday, June 15th at 6 p.m. Central Time until Sunday, June 17th and since I JUST redesigned my craft room, I was THRILLED to be able to participate.

First of all, I just have to show you my "old" crafting room...well now I know that I am still VERY BLESSED in the fact that I do have a crafting room of my own to begin with, ya know?

O.k., now on to my current crafting room.  This is the picture of my current room BEFORE the redesign.  Now, this is when my "creative" juices were flowing, but I have to be honest and say, I almost NEVER cleaned it up (much to my OCD hubby's dismay).

So, I know that I should count my blessings (and I do) since I do have quite a few of those crafting cubes but I never seemed to have enough storage space.

We then found ourselves the proud owners of a corner desk that I knew would be the PERFECT addition to my space...so my very sweet hubbie and I proceeded to move the desk from our garage into my crafting room...BOY was that desk (and all it's parts) HEAVY!

Here is my redesigned crafting space.

I wanted to show you all a close-up of my work space, too.

I just LOVE the depth here.  I can leave my recently created projects out for inspiration. Below is the other side of the room.  The shelf at the bottom is actually from Target and is supposed to store shoes.  I did not install the cross boards because I wanted bigger openings.  I found rectangular baskets at Michaels that are perfect for storing ribbon, punches, catalogs, etc in them.

I've had the shelf at the top for a very a long time.  I store my alcohol inks, stickles and mini misters along with jars filled with buttons on these shelves.

I also want to show you one of my favorite organizational tips.

Being a HUGE Tim Holtz fan, I have a TON of distress inks and organize them here.

I got a really cute suitcase from Michaels a while back and it's perfect for storing my inks.  I also placed a few long, narrow baskets in the lid to store some of my favorite and most used tools/supplies.

When I want to go to a crop, I just take the baskets out and close up the suitcase for easy travel with my inds.  Here is a close up of how I label my inks to keep them straight.

I know there are many ways to do this, but all I did was take a sticker sheet and type all of my colors on it.  Then I trimmed the list so they would fit on the side of the ink containers...yes, I know, I could even get more organized and put them in alphabetical order...maybe another day:)

I hope you've enjoyed taking a look at my crafting space.  With all of the added drawers from the desk, I have plenty of storage space now...can you keep a secret????  I actually have 2 or 3 drawers that are currently empty...just don't tell my hubby, o.k.?

O.k., now if you've made it all the way to the end of this message, first of all, you deserve a huge THANK YOU...and of course a chance to win a most wonderful PRIZE!

Now since this is my first prize offering, I will need to limit it to the 48 contiguous states at this time.  To enter, just leave me a comment below and I will randomly pick a winner.  You have until 12 midnight Pacific time on June 17th to leave a comment.  I will randomly choose a winner on January 18th at 7 p.m. Pacific time.  I will post the winner on my blog at that time and ask you to contact me with your address.

Thanks so much for visiting!  Now go on and get to the next stop in the blog hop.  The links are below.

Card Patterns Sketch 169 and another Color Inspiration!

I've had a blast playing with my new distress markers this weekend.  I LOVE the way I can color right on my stamps with the brush side of the marker and randomly blend the colors.  I wanted to follow the Card Patterns sketch but also wanted to limit my embellishments so the water color effect that the distress markers make would stand out.

Here is the sketch I followed:
This is what I came up with:
I just love the simplicity of this design.  I wanted the emphasis to be on the water color and sentiment and think this turned out really well!  I also decided I would use another color inspiration today, so took this picture of my placemats.
Actually, I think I'll be using this more than once, lol...soooooo many lucious colors to choose from!

Here is a close-up of the water color:

and the inside:

Inspired by Color...Frugal Scrappin' Style

I have always been inspired by color...now not just one or two colors, but multiple colors that when seen together, exude specific emotions...the colors that inspire me today are lavender, white and green.  It may have something to do with the fact that these colors are ALL AROUND me right now as the flowers shown below are all throughout my neighborhood.

Now for me, these colors together are calming.  Whether it is sunny or cloudy outside, these colors calm me...ahhhhhhhh...a breath of fresh air in this hustle bustle life I live.

Today, I decided to take a frugal foto of these colors and use them as inspiration for a crafting project.

Here is my inspiration:
Here is what I was inspired to make:

Since my son and dil lost their little one this week AND purple and green are my dil's favorite colors, I was inspired to use some pp I've had in my stash for quite a while and create this beautiful card.

I used a TH stamp on the front of the card...a fitting sentiment, along with a Technique Tuesdays Ali Edwards stamp on the inside of the card.  I was also inspired to use my new TH distress markers with an old stamp in my stash.

I pulled some white roses out of my stash and "dusted" them with some TH dusty concord distress ink, added some buttons and ribbon and completed my card.

Ingredients:

PP - Making Memories from 2005...WOW this is old paper!
Cardstock - Bazill Basics
Stamps - card front-Tim Holtz and flower stamp from my stash/card inside-Ali Edwards from Technique Tuesday
Ribbon - from my stash (probably from Michaels)
Buttons - from my stash (probably off of an old shirt)
Border punch - EK Success
TH Distress markers - Dusty Concord and Pine Needles
TH Distress ink pads - Dusty Concord and Pine Needles

Using this color inspiration to make this card was very therapuedic.

I hope you find inspiration in color today!

Frosted Designs - sewing

Have I said I just LOVE the challenges over at Frosted Designs, lately?  I am so excited to participate in this current challenge!  You see, I've been wanting to practice sewing on my cards for some time and was thrilled at the opportunity to design for our Fabulous Friday challenge with "sewing" as the theme.

Here is what I came up with.

Can you see the subtle stitching around the outside of the background pp?  I just LOVE it!  Yahoo!

Check out all of these buttons I have going on, too!  Do you notice the shell button and the candle buttons?  How cool!  Also, I'm proud to say the green centers of the flowers are made from some Christmas tree ornaments I bought after season a few years back.  I took them apart and never did use the parts...until now!!!!
Here is some more sewing on the inside of the card, too.  This Frugal Scrapper was on a roll, huh?

Please stop over at the Frosted Designs blog and join in on the challenge!  As usual, there is an AMAZING prize waiting for one lucky winner from Prairie Bird Boutique!  They have some awesome embellishments, so don't forget to hop on over and check them out, too!
